The Old Mill: Perfectly Southern Hospitality in Pigeon Forge

October 27, 2026

The Old Mill and the Old Mill Restaurant lit up at night, with the waterwheel and the dam on the Little Pigeon River

Just off the Parkway in the middle of Pigeon Forge, the Old Mill feels a world away from the go-karts and neon. The historic grist mill sits right on the Little Pigeon River, surrounded by weathered wooden buildings full of shops and restaurants. It’s our favorite way to spend an easygoing evening, with dinner, a stroll and a little shopping, all within a few steps of each other.

Dinner at the Old Mill Restaurant

The Old Mill Restaurant serves hearty Southern comfort food, and it’s the reason most people come. Start with the famous corn chowder, a creamy bowl that many locals call the best in Tennessee.

From there, think country-fried classics: we went for the fried chicken with mashed potatoes, and it didn’t disappoint. Portions are generous, so come hungry.

Save room for dessert. A warm fruit cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream is a good way to end a mountain dinner.

Tip: It’s a popular spot, especially on summer weekends, so expect a wait at dinnertime. Put your name in, then explore the shops while you wait.

Walk the river

After dinner, wander down to the water. The view of the mill and the Little Pigeon River is beautiful at sunset, and you’ll likely meet the resident ducks and geese along the banks.

Browse the General Store

The Old Mill General Store is packed with mountain-made treats, including the mill’s own stone-ground grits, pancake mixes, jams and candy. Stop in for a souvenir, or breakfast supplies for the cabin.

A moonshine tasting (for the grown-ups)

Grown-ups can round out the evening with a moonshine tasting at the distillery next to the mill. A friendly bartender pours a row of samples, from straight corn whiskey to apple pie, and tells the story of each one. See our full guide to moonshine tasting in the Smokies.

Getting there from the cabin

The Old Mill is an easy drive from Firefly Hollow Cabin: head into Pigeon Forge on the Parkway, with no steep mountain roads along the way. Parking near the mill fills up on busy nights, so arrive a little early.

Back at the cabin, end the night by the fireplace or in the private hot tub. Firefly Hollow Cabin sleeps 11, and every bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom. See the cabin, or check your dates below.
